HOW LONG IS EACH CLASS SESSION?

The MBSR course is delivered in a series of eight weekly 2 ½ - hour classes, plus a day-long retreat on a Saturday. In total, there are ten sessions including a pre-course orientation. Mindfulness 101 is a series of four weekly 1.5- hour classes. Private sessions are 50 minutes and may be booked as often as needed/wanted.

IS THERE HOME PRACTICE BETWEEN CLASSES? 

Between each session, participants are encouraged to practice at home what they have been exploring in class. Handouts, a workbook and recorded guided meditations (MP3s) will be provided to support this practice. 

IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM AGE TO ATTEND COURSE?

Minimum is 12 years of age (with parent’s or guardian’s permission). There is not maximum age!

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM MBSR?

Everyone is welcome on this path - all genders, sexual identities, faiths, and cultural backgrounds are welcome to learn about mindfulness and meditation and how it might be beneficial in their life. 

WHO WOULD NOT BENEFIT?

An individual would not benefit if they were not committed to attending all eight classes and the home practice. Also, if you are struggling with either substance abuse, suicidal ideation or trauma. A pre-screening conversation will be required with the teacher.  

WILL MINDFULNESS OR MEDITATION BE IN CONFLICT WITH MY PERSONAL FAITH?

Mindfulness is not a religion; it is considered secular. Although its roots are in Buddhism, you don’t have to be Buddhist or Hindu to practice. You can meditate and still practice your own religion or no religion at all.

DOES MEDITATION REQUIRE SPECIAL SKILL OR BACKGROUND? 

No special skills are needed; come as you are! You can start right now.

DOES IT REQUIRE A HUGE CHUNK OF YOUR TIME?

Your intention and the quality of your meditation are more important than length of your practice(s). You are invited to put in about 40 minutes of guided meditation practice per day but everyone is different. You will find the amount of time that best suits your needs and schedule!

IS IT LIMITED TO SITTING ON THE FLOOR? 

No. You are welcome to sit in a chair for every class or bring a cushion. You will be introduced to various ways of practicing and can choose what posture is best for you at any given time. 

​IS MEDITATION ABOUT FALLING INTO A TRANCE? 

Mindfulness is about falling out of the trance you may be locked into. It is about falling awake to your life. After some time, you will notice that you start to feel more energized and aware during your day. 

IS THIS COURSE COVERED BY MY INSURANCE?

Not at this time.

DO YOU OFFER PRIVATE CLASSES OUTSIDE OF THE 8 WEEK MBSR COURSE?

Yes, I also teach one-on-one sessions which are customized to your needs. I am also available to teach mindfulness workshops.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS? 

Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat, water, and a pillow or blanket for comfort.
